You must be eligible to work in the UK to apply for this position.
Counting two of the Big Four, two magic circle and fifty of the UK’s top 100 law firms, three top ten US white-shoe businesses and three of the world’s ten largest real estate agencies as customers, Vutu.re is established globally as a leading supplier of SaaS-based marketing technology. We have been in profit since our year of founding in 2006 generating considerable revenue increases year-on-year with offices in New York, Sydney and London and customers in over 150 countries.
We are a strong, growing and privately-owned small business. We always take great pride in our work. We want to create and deliver well designed and executed software products in a friendly collaborative manner, always caring and respecting our customers. We are uniquely placed to create new products and expand the reach of existing ones.
Our software balances distribution of marketing activity with control. With their own unique logins and permissions, a sales team can execute their own email campaigns, a realtor could create a microsite showcasing a single property or a lawyer could host an event to inform and engage clients. In each case approval is requested from Marketing to ensure brand continuity and compliance.
We integrate with leading CRMs to automatically extract and update data, and, because our system was originally built as a CMS, each of our modules is extremely user-friendly requiring minimal technical knowledge. We supply a unique instance of software to each customer accessible by private cloud, hosting it in the country most appropriate to their data needs and adding the modules most relevant to their marketing needs across email, print, events and website creation.
As a small but well-established business, we can offer staff the opportunity to make immediate, noticeable impact on customers, with many of our most popular products starting life as initiatives suggested as either saleable or beneficial to a given customer.
We have a huge range of ideas and initiatives for the future: from creating platform parity across all CRMs which our clients use, through our BI and Big Data reporting project, through a truly Continuous Delivery pipeline for our development stream, to expanding our offering to go beyond enterprise level software to reach small business and the automation that is required to one-click deploy, set-up, install and configure of the platform and associated bits.
As a software business, technology is of the utmost importance to us. Our main product, Vx, is varied across a range of new technology from C# and ASP.NET MVC to legacy ASPX and VB.NET. This product is hosted in a wide range of environments including the public cloud (Azure and AWS), private cloud and dedicated customer servers.
Within the DevOps team you would be working with a build and deployment pipeline comprising Git, Jenkins, Selenium and Octopus Deploy. We are using Puppet for configuration management across both internal and production environments, covering both Windows and Linux servers. Our primary database technology is Microsoft SQL Server; however, we do also have ElasticSearch as part of an ELK stack for log aggregation.
We use tools which are right for the job, always staying open to new technologies. We believe in automating as much of the development process as possible, building tools to allow developers to focus on doing their job.
We are both Agile and driven by quality. Continuously improving our SCRUM process (peer reviews, retrospectives, stand-ups, planning meetings, etc.) and continuous integration (automating builds, tests and deployments).
Due to the growth of the company we are looking to rapidly scale our infrastructure and drive improvements to our deployment process by driving automation and implementing new tools.
Our current DevOps team has been working hard on updating many of our current processes and tooling (e.g. setting up puppet for configuration management, moving to a new build and deployment pipeline) but there is still a lot of work to be done as we look to continually improve our environment. We are embarking on several automation projects which will transform the way our business operates.
A successful applicant will also help review our current hybrid cloud infrastructure which is currently a mix of Rackspace, AWS and Azure and plan a move towards a more scalable infrastructure solution using microservices and containers. Apart from this a key project will be working to set up and deploy a scalable monitoring solution to allow all infrastructure related metrics to be viewed and measured.
Essentially, you will be responsible for implementing an automation mind-set through the company by automating wherever possible eliminating the need of manual processes and the errors that arise from them. You will also be responsible for trialling and recommending new tools and technologies where you believe they would benefit the team and/or business.
What we need from you
We are looking for a Software Engineer from any Object Orientated programming background (though ideally C#) who has a strong passion for automation and wants to become a focused DevOps Engineer.
Alongside solid OO principles you will need to have experience of writing scripts in PowerShell or any other scripting language to help automate daily repetitive tasks.
Though, you may not currently be a ‘DevOps’ engineer you will, however, have an automation first mindset where you try to automate day to day tasks wherever possible. As well as, an understanding of DevOps concepts and principles having previously worked in a company where you closely worked with other teams including QA and operations.
Additionally, though you may not have been involved in the setup of automated deployment of your application through to production you will have worked on automating part of the release process whether this be automating build, testing or monitoring. Technologies are not so key here, but you will have a familiarity with one of the following: Puppet, Chef, Ansible, Jenkins, Team City or Octopus Deploy.
We do not have any need for an engineer to have previously worked on supporting cloud infrastructure, but we do need you to have a strong interest in wanting to work with it.
We love people who are interested in technology, and in this role even more than usual. We are looking for someone who has an opinion about new technology and processes and loves implementing them to drive efficiencies in their day to day work.
What you’ll get from us
As we move on this journey towards improving our deployment process by working with the latest technologies and accepting new ways of working you will get to grow with us. Any engineer coming in will get to progress their career into a DevOps Engineer position working on building deployment pipelines.
Therefore, though you may not be an expert in these technologies and building continuous integration/ delivery pipelines right now, you will get to learn from the current DevOps engineer to improve your knowledge in this area and cross train with technologies such as: team city, Octopus deploy, cloud and configuration management.
We are driven to make things better, something that extends to the careers of those who work with us.
Our team contains a range of Developers, QA’s, Devops Engineers Account Directors and management-level staff, many of whom have secured promotion over their time in the company. This role is no exception and should see a clear career path into a senior role for anyone keen to pursue it. We have a history of promoting from within, here are a few examples of individuals who have worked and moved up with us:
Kandeepan Sivarajasingam joined us as a .NET developer quickly becoming a senior member of the team, building a range of widgets that utilise our complex CRM integration to part-automate the creation of websites, a project he’s been involved in from idea to delivery. Edd Couchman has been with us since 2006, going from creating the CCS automation that became our print module, through Technical Manager and on to Technical Director from where he’s spearheading the extension of our interfacing capabilities. Over eight years Alex Elliot has risen from Senior Designer to managing a portfolio of complex projects worth up to £1.5m including all work we complete for Ernst and Young.
We are on an Agile journey closely tied in with the move towards DevOps. While we’d like you to contribute we are not specifically hiring for someone who has “been there done that”. As such you should see your knowledge of automated cloud hosted deployment grow.
For anyone joining us now we offer stability, Pluralsight training, wide learning opportunities, a truly collaborative environment that embraces fresh ideas, a range of meaningful projects and new features that mix the latest technology with the challenge of gradually refactoring legacy code, and - for long-term members of staff - we are happy to talk about flexi-time, holiday and homeworking.
We offer a generous benefits package that includes a 5% pension contribution, a performance related bonus of up to 10% of salary, free gym membership and 25 days holiday.
By outlining the interview process upfront, we allow applicants to plan around it from first contact. Following initial selection by Talent Point, applicants will complete a 30-minute telephone interview with Tufan and Gareth. After this successful applicants will be invited to Vuture’s offices to meet Tufan, Gareth, Maciej and other members of the team.
At all stages of the hiring process we aim to deliver an open, transparent experience that includes constructive feedback for those applicants who are not successful.
